I enjoyed the competitive nature of the job, I enjoyed the fast lifestyle, I enjoyed the pleasure of meeting new people and seeing new places. It was a great difference from the sheltered life I grew up in.
Looking back I realise my greatest error was not realigning my dreams. I have been through turbulent waters , and I understand that 80% of the time the average Nigerian Salesman is in survival mode, struggling to build the house, struggling to buy the car, struggling to pay the Children's Fees, ensuring we look as good as required, struggling to go back to school, the dreams become something that one does not have time for. (This is the greatest disaster that could happen)
So today I am going to share on how we can continue to have dreams and live the dreams of our childhood.
- Plan the journey from the beginning: Salesmen are a vulnerable group of people, our Self esteem gets attacked constantly. Have deadlines for all your dreams, do not let situations determine your deadline.
- No matter how big your Dream is , achieve it a bit at a time: Life does throw you punches, but you need to be realistic in achieving your goals, Salesmen have committed Fraud because they want to finish that Duplex they have bragged about and have lost their jobs. So stupid.
- Ensure the dream is sincerely yours: It takes more effort living another persons life. you become drained, this is one reason I disagree with Sales Training that give a stringent way things should be done, you realise the team gets burnt out sooner, however if you inspire the team to success, they get more done. I have seen situations that you lose your identity by trying to fit into the Office culture, you become a copy cat, hmm, you will just die before your time.
- Stop Comparing yourself with others!: Success means different things to everyone, Standards of success changes for us at different times, our wants, needs and ambitions change, this is difficult but you need to be real to yourself, Celebrate yourself, your achievements, and look forward to what is in stock for you. It is natural to yearn for things, but stop beating yourself up.
- Never say it is too Late: I know, TIME FLIES! but never give up on yourself, it is not over until it is over.
- Never be afraid to start over!: If you fall down, get back up, try again, start small, ignore the big boys around you, there is dignity in labour. do not be afraid to get your hands dirty, ( This is easier if it is because you want to achieve your goal).
- Never forget the hard times: Hard times guide us, shows us our mistakes, teaches us how to do things differently, "experience is truly the best teacher"
Have a great day .
